We liked Plymouth as a base from here. Drakes Circus, the Barbican and Hoe were all about a 5-10 minute walk away, and we found plenty of places to eat close by. The kitchen was handy, the room had enough equipment, and although the bed and pillows felt a little uncomfortable, they were okay. The room was clean and comfortable enough, but several small practical problems added up during our nine nights. The bed blocked the storage cupboard doors, so opening them would have left only one usable side of the bed. With no luggage bench or stand, our suitcases stayed open on the floor. The couch worked for one person but was too small for two and undersized for the room. The dining table became our only spot for small items and coats, so it wasn't much use for dining; a wall coat rack would help. There was no convenient mirror near the outlet for drying my hair, so I ended up using the TV reflection. The motion light at the entrance had no off switch we could find and lit up the whole room during nighttime bathroom trips, waking my partner. Outside our door, a heavily scented air freshener seemed to cover a smell of mold and/or cigarette smoke, which was still noticeable through the chemical scent. The hardest part was check-in and getting help. No receptionist was there when we arrived around 6pm, within the check-in window. I rang the assistance bell and was told a lockbox code had been texted, but I have a North American number and can't receive texts from international numbers, so I hadn't received the property's messages. After we got in, we didn't see staff during the stay. I contacted the property twice through Hotels.com and got no reply, so we were left unsure about cleaning or how to check out. Despite all that, we enjoyed our stay and would come back if these issues are addressed for future guests.

My room had a large window facing the main street, so keep that in mind. I had what I needed for a few days and found the place great overall. The bathroom's automatic light was the one thing I didn't like, it was confusing.

Cody was kind, thoughtful and professional when I checked room assignments with him beforehand and asked for a few changes. We were a large group in Plymouth for a wedding, arrived late, and the night porter was expecting us. He showed us round to our reserved parking space at the back. When my father became ill and went to hospital during our stay, Cody rearranged things so we could keep our rooms for another night. Our rooms were clean and well laid out, with comfortable beds and bathrooms, plus fridges and crockery. The only little annoyance was shower pressure that kept fluctuating.

The staff were really lovely and kind. I absolutely hated the room, though. I felt like meat on display.

We only stayed a night, but it was worth it and I'd book here again when I need a hotel. The room was tidy and very clean, and the bed was genuinely comfortable. On arrival, the staff member gave us all the information we needed and was very helpful. Thanks to Liam for carrying my bag out to the car when we left in that awful rain.
