Gallery Guesthouse

The room was reasonable, but the shower drained slowly, the toilet cistern lid was cracked, and the stair carpets looked dirty and not properly cleaned. Breakfast was too salty overall, and the bacon was overcooked for my taste. The owner seasons the food while cooking, which isn't good for people with high blood pressure or diabetes. I've never known breakfast to be seasoned during cooking, especially with processed foods like baked beans and bacon already containing so much salt.

I booked three nights but left after one, as fast as I could. The bedding was filthy under the covers, the tea spoon in the mug was dirty, and I didn't want to touch anything. The room was dusty, with stained, dirty walls, and the bed was in poor repair. Its lamp flickered, which made me suspect faulty wiring. The sink was cracked, and the private hallway toilet was stained and gross. The shower was in the room, with no ventilation, and that really has to be seen to be believed. I had a very bad night and left first thing in the morning. Don't stay here.

The only things going for this place are how close it is to the station and University. Inside, it smelled musty and the dated room wasn't clean. Street noise was constant. The shower was moldy, its door wouldn't shut properly, and with no ventilation in the room it steamed everything up. The private toilet seat was dirty underneath, the sink was loose on the wall, and the kettle was filthy with a handle that came off. The whole building needs a major refurb and deep clean. I'm shocked the older reviews were so good, and can't understand how it got this bad.

The host was outstanding, polite and helpful. I had a spotless, comfortable room and didn't hear any noise at all. The location is handy for both the train station and the university. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
