I’m not local, and came to the pub for a wake with lots of people travelling from far away. They let us book the space without a charge and bring our own food. The host was polite, considerate and accommodating. A woodburner was lit, with cosy sofas and tables set out ready. Drinks were reasonably priced, including tea served in pretty ceramic cups and teapots. It was warm and cosy without an expensive price tag.
We had the beef Sunday roast, and it was cooked perfectly. The plate came with roast potatoes, carrots, red cabbage and cauliflower cheese, all delicious and beautifully presented. Two of our group had desserts, which were tasty and nicely served too. The service was friendly and great. We’ll definitely be back!
We arrived without booking, just five minutes before Sunday food service was due to end, and they welcomed us and served us anyway. I’m really glad we went. The plated carvery was unexpectedly excellent, the best I’ve ever had. The pork belly came with the crispiest crackling still attached, a first for me, and the chef even made an excellent Caesar Salad on spec when we asked, despite it not being listed on the Sunday menu. I sent my compliments to the chef, and the attentive staff completed the visit. One thing to know: if you don’t like live music while eating, sit in the back room. The place exceeded all my expectations. I’ll be back very soon.
We booked for four and had a fantastic evening, with excellent food and service. Grace gave me a complimentary taste of a Scott egg, which was superb. Tiago also deserves a mention for his friendly smile and great service as our waiter. A1.
We tried the six-course tasting menu on 11 Dec 25, and every dish was a favourite. I couldn’t decide between the fish and venison. The food, flavours and service made it a superb meal. Thanks, Joe.
