Room 33 was lovely, with a bay front and high ceilings. It was spacious and spotless, the recently renovated bathroom looked gorgeous, and the soft white towels, clean bedding, and comfortable bed made it easy to relax. We were even allowed to have a takeaway in the room, and the owners offered crockery and cutlery straight away. The staff were amazing from arrival to checkout, and we were able to check in early. We’ve just come away after a fabulous couple of nights at The Grosvenor, and we’ll definitely be back. Thank you!
Having parking at the rear of the hotel was invaluable, and the location worked really well for us. The lighthouse and The Hoe are at the top of the road, and The Barbican is about a 10 minute walk, with plenty of bars and good places to eat where we spent our time. We were in Room 33 for two nights. It was clean, comfortable, and pleasant, with a bed we slept well in, a powerful shower, and plenty of hot water. The Grosvenor Hotel felt fresh and spacious, which we appreciate since we travel fairly often for short breaks. The staff we met were helpful and pleasant, and made us feel welcome. Thanks to them, and merry Christmas. We’d certainly stay again.
The location was ideal, near both the Hoe and the Barbican. I had a single room, so it was small, but it suited my needs perfectly well. The only drawback was the window looking straight onto a wall about 8 feet away.
My single room felt a bit cramped, though the room service was thoughtful and attentive. The hotel is in a very good spot, close to West Hue Park.
Breakfast was professionally served and really nice, the one good part of the stay for me. I wouldn’t stay here again. The bathroom floor was dusty and so sticky the bath mat stuck to it, and the toilet roll holder was loose because it had been fixed into plasterboard with a wall plug. We also had a frustrating parking experience. There was no hotel parking available, and although we were offered a council concessionary leaflet for £10, they didn’t actually have one. We ended up street parking and spent over an hour wrestling with a terrible app to register and pay £16.50. Since moving the car might have cost us the space and the fee, we walked into town for food. Hotel evening meals weren’t available, and Plymouth nightlife wasn’t much fun for us at 66. We’d come off the Brittany ferry after docking at eight and had said we’d arrive to check in between 8 and 9. Two messages asked for our arrival time, but there was no mobile signal on the boat, so we couldn’t respond. We rushed to get there around 9 pm. After all that, I wanted a bath, but it took over an hour to fill because the water barely trickled. There was no reception available to raise it with. The room then felt like a tropical hot house. The windows wouldn’t open, and we couldn’t turn the radiators down. At 7:30 am we put the news on the TV. The occupant of Room 7 banged on the wall and shouted something we couldn’t make out, continuing until 8 am, when a woman knocked at our door. I don’t know what was wrong or whether drugs or alcohol were involved, but she looked and sounded exceptionally rough. She forcefully demanded that I turn the TV down because she needed her extra two hours. If she hadn’t spent 30 minutes banging and shouting through the wall like a lunatic, I might have tried to accommodate her, but I didn’t think the TV was loud and told her to complain to reception. About 10 minutes later, a receptionist came to our door while I was still in my underwear and asked me to turn it down, saying it wasn’t my fault because the walls were very thin. She was right about the walls, and I invited her in to hear the TV, which was set to volume 29 and was reasonable for listening to the news. She declined. I turned it off, showered, got dressed, and had breakfast. At checkout I offered to discuss the problems with reception, but was advised to write a review online. So here it is.
