Travelodge Plymouth

The room was clean and functional, and for the price the central location made it good value. The receptionist was friendly when I arrived, though I didn't have much contact with other staff. I’ve found Travelodges to be at the cheaper end of hotel chains, so my expectations were low after reading some scary reviews, but this stay wasn’t bad. The free wifi only lasted 30 minutes, which seems stingy these days, even if that’s standard for Travelodge. The building is quite ugly, and on one of my three nights I could hear faint music until 3 a.m. I’d seen reviews mentioning a nightclub nearby or underneath, so I assume that was the cause. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but I could have done without it.

I’ve never had a worse night’s sleep. Nightclub noise carried on until 3 a.m. The reception staff were really nice and helped me move rooms for the second night. There weren’t enough towels, and without a bath mat the bathroom floor got flooded and dangerously slippery. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. It seemed like lots of people were living there, and on the day we arrived a body was found on our floor. The police were still there, but the floor wasn’t closed off. We only heard about it through social media, which was very upsetting.

We booked two rooms on the third floor, and both had a horrible musty smell like old urine. The place was basic, with too few towels and no bath mats. The shower gel and handwash smelled like floor cleaner. On the plus side, it was fairly quiet, the beds were comfortable, and there were plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. One room key stopped working after a day. The staff were professional, though not especially friendly. I wouldn’t book here again.

A good night’s sleep matters at a hotel, but there was a nightclub right underneath us playing loud music on Saturday night, with the noise going on until who knows when in the morning. The staff, location, and room were all good otherwise.
