The countryside setting is wonderfully quiet, with dark skies at night, and the secure garden and decking made it easy to eat outside with our pet. The self-catering place is lovely and pet friendly, attached to the owners’ home. It’s tucked down a rural lane, so you’d probably miss it without sat nav. Bridgend is 9 miles away for McArthur glen outlet shopping and plenty of places to eat, and the M4 is about 10 minutes away for getting out to explore. We spent three lovely hours at the royal mint, touring all five exhibitions and visiting the shop. Book ahead if you want to go, so you’re not disappointed.

There’s plenty to see nearby, from wildlife and horses around the cottage to beaches about 40 minutes away; Cardiff is roughly a half-hour drive, with good rail links close by. A retail centre is only 15 minutes away, and Fox & Hounds, the local pub and restaurant, is a five-minute drive. The cottage itself is fully equipped, beautifully decorated, and has a large private garden with decking for meals outside. It sits among meadows with lovely views, well back from the road, so it’s a very peaceful place if quiet is what you’re after.

The hosts were really welcoming, then left us to enjoy our break. It’s a lovely, quiet spot, though quite remote. Thanks, Brad and Rebecca.
