Antelope Hotel by Greene King Inns

The food was good and we liked the atmosphere, but the way the ID rule was handled left us very disappointed. I hadn’t brought ID because I wasn’t planning to drink. Partway through the meal, we were told I’d have to leave at 9pm without it, even if I was still eating. Being told they could box up my meal didn’t feel right for a sit-down restaurant. The waiter was dismissive and dealt with it badly. If they’d explained the policy before we ordered and paid, we would’ve eaten somewhere else. Customers shouldn’t be asked to leave mid-meal over a rule that wasn’t made clear beforehand. Better communication could have prevented the whole situation.

The meal was a letdown. My pint of Guinness was poor, and the beef and ale pie had only three pieces of beef in it, so it was mostly ale and gravy. We’d also been charged for extra chips to go with items that were missing, but by then we didn’t need the chips and weren’t allowed to cancel them. Earlier, we were told that half our order wasn’t available, just 5-10 minutes after ordering. We asked to swap some other items, but were told the kitchen had already started making them. We weren’t given the chance to change the whole order to what we actually wanted, and ended up wasting money and food. I work in hospitality and that’s not how I’d expect this to be handled. Disappointing.

Dannie was lovely when we stopped in for a quick pub lunch in Poole. She made everyone feel welcome, gave us plenty of attention and even chatted with our children, which is always a nice touch. I’d definitely recommend a visit to The Antelope. Thanks so much, Dannie.

There were lots of us, but the food came out quickly and everything we ordered was delicious. All the staff were lovely and efficient, and Tracy greeted us with the brightest smile. 10/10, we’ll be back x
