We had a pleasant time sitting on the terrace in unusually warm weather. The food was somewhere between average and good, about 3.5 out of 5. The cheese selection was tiny, with each piece roughly the size of a Dairylea triangle. Drinks were pricey too: we paid £24 at full price for one Bloody Mary and one Virgin Mary.

We had dinner as a group of four on a Sunday and went for the tasting menu with wine pairings. Every course was delicious and nicely presented, and we thought it was good value. Ann took great care of us throughout. The refined dining room, smart uniforms, elegant interiors and bespoke details, even the wallpaper, all add to the five-star feel, especially after the recent renovations. We keep coming back to Hotel du Vin, which is practically on our doorstep. Over the years we've enjoyed summer champagne and canapés on the patio and cosy winter evenings by the fire playing Scrabble. We've also held several business events here, from cocktail and champagne parties to functions in the beautiful rooms. They've all been handled seamlessly, and we trust the team with our guests. The staff are what make the place stand out. They're warm and attentive, and often remember us by name or face, for all the right reasons. Sam, the events coordinator, is always friendly and helpful. Whether we're there for a drink, dinner or an event, we keep having a lovely experience and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

We had a good choice of dishes for our group, and the spacious restaurant has lovely décor and a relaxed, stylish feel. The location is excellent, and my friend appreciated the birthday chocolate gesture. That was thoughtful, so thank you. Service on Saturday night was slow and poor, even though the restaurant wasn't especially busy. We struggled again and again to get staff to take food and drink orders or clear plates. It became a running joke among us, but it did spoil the evening. We were also given the wrong glasses for our red wine at first and had to ask for the right ones, which felt ironic given the wine theme. I was there with friends who've been loyal customers for over 20 years, including hosting a wedding here. They all said they wouldn't come back, which was disappointing. We understand staffing may have been difficult, but it felt more like a problem with training and attentiveness. Such a shame, because the venue has a lot of potential.

Clare Rockett, the GM, was an absolute superstar and had the patience of a saint while looking after us. Nothing was too much trouble, and she helped make our celebration so special. My mum and dad recently marked their 60th wedding anniversary here and took over the restaurant. It's a beautiful venue, spotless throughout, with attentive staff and perfectly set tables. The hot buffet was decent enough. Thank you so much.

The French market table was a highlight at our events, generous, beautifully presented and delicious. The food was exceptional throughout, and the elegant décor still feels relaxed. We also loved the Crow’s Nest snug, full of character and wonderfully cosy with its open fire, especially for an intimate gathering in colder months. We've held several important occasions at Hotel du Vin Poole, and Events Manager Sam organised each one with real care and calm. She managed our civil partnership ceremony and dinner, a private drinks reception before a party, and a large family lunch before Christmas. Each felt personal and beautifully arranged, with everything running smoothly and nothing too much trouble. Zac, the barman, deserves a mention too. He's funny, personable and attentive without hovering, striking just the right balance of friendly and professional. Guests regularly said how welcome and well looked after they felt. It's a special venue because of its excellent team. We'll definitely return and would recommend it for celebrations and events.
