The Port Hotel

The location was great, but Easter made it extremely loud. We stayed three nights and were very disappointed. The room was freezing until I called to have the heating turned on, and the mattress was so hard I ended up lining all the pillows across it to lie on. There was a dirty sock on the floor when we arrived. The toilet wouldn't flush properly, the water pressure was terrible, and the sink turned on by itself. The TV never worked.

We stopped at the bar for a drink and to watch the evening sport. It was busy with a great atmosphere, and we loved the stove fire. We only had a couple of drinks while watching the match, but the food going out to other tables looked and smelled great. It's good to see this long-standing smaller establishment so well supported.

Such a lovely spot, and the location was perfect. We enjoyed delicious food from the bar and a great breakfast, with friendly, welcoming staff. I did lose a mark because the shower kept shifting between hot and cold, and a fan somewhere switched on and off through the night. I'm a light sleeper, so that bothered me.

Our anglers came from five countries for a two-day competition, and we all had a great bar service late into the night. There was even a barman doing cartwheels, apparently the only one in Northern Ireland! The rooms were super quiet, the place spotless, and the food was well above hotel standard. Breakfast came out quickly, and the Ulster fry tasted freshly cooked rather than kept under a heat lamp. Every staff member was local, friendly, and full of good chat. They couldn't do enough for us and made us feel very welcome. By far the best hotel our angling federation has stayed in for an event like this. We can't wait to come back next year.
