We stayed two nights in room 208 and slept well. You can just make out trains in the distance, but the triple glazing kept the sound from disturbing us. The extractor fan was working in the bedroom, and the room got steamy even with the bathroom door shut. There was also nowhere to dry towels, like a radiator. They were still damp after being left in the bathroom all day.
We had room 101, right beside reception and the restaurant, facing the train station, but didn’t hear any noise. It was spacious and clean. We ate after 5pm, and the spinach and mascarpone ravioli with green pesto was delicious, probably one of the best pasta dishes I’ve had, and I’ve been to Italy 🇮🇹 We were there for one night to attend an event at the Guildhall, just a five-minute walk away. We parked at the recommended multistorey car park, where the discounted rate was £4.50 per 24 hours.
The staff were kind, helpful and lovely, and the hotel was clean and very quiet despite its excellent spot right beside the station. The lift down from the Premier Plus floor wasn’t working while we were there, so we had to use the stairs. That wasn’t ideal with arthritis. It was also raining hard, and water started coming through a light fitting in the restaurant. Staff said it had been happening for a while and had been reported. I hope both problems have been fixed by now.
I was really impressed with how clean everything was. The room smelled fresh as soon as we walked in, and it was lovely. I work as a housekeeper at another Premier Inn, so I noticed. Tea and coffee are just outside the lift on the first floor, so you don’t have to go all the way into the restaurant or reception for them. The woman at reception was brilliant. She was there as soon as we stepped out of the lift and ready to help with all our requests. I didn’t catch her name, but she had glasses and dark hair. She deserves recognition for her hard work and outstanding customer service. We loved the hotel and will definitely stay again. Thank you, Premier Inn!
Awful. No communication, no hot water, and no internet when I arrived. Then the lift stopped working. My key wouldn’t work either, so I couldn’t get through the door to reception. The virtual receptionist on the phone had no idea what I was saying. After waiting around for 20 minutes, I got in the lift to reception with someone else. There I was told they were having key problems. That’s no help when you’re locked out. Worse than Fawlty Towers. I’ve stayed in better budget hotels.
