The food was a real highlight. I had fish and chips with mushy peas, while my +1 went for pizza. Both were freshly cooked with generous portions. Thanks to the kitchen team for Friday 6th, and a big shout-out to Adrian, who gave us great meal service with lots of J2O. You’re lucky to have him. Check-in and checkout were quick and easy. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. My only little gripes were that the TV wasn’t great for sound or choice, and there were no disposable toothbrushes or toothpaste. But it’s Premier Inn, and a great deal for the price. I’d happily stay here again if I’m back in Portsmouth.
Once we got inside, we had a really good stay. Finding the place was a bit of a saga: it’s set back beside a closed Pizza Hut and very close to another Premier Inn. On a dark, rainy night we drove past three times, so that first drink was well deserved 🍻 We were five senior travellers, all with plenty of experience, and had come 160 miles for a funeral. I’d read some bad reviews beforehand and felt a bit anxious, but we all enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and a decent size, with good air conditioning and heating, and tea and coffee facilities, though no biscuits. The bed was firm, with a good topper and quality cotton sheets. Check-in was simple, and the man who helped us was polite and friendly. The meal deal was excellent value. Dinner came with two courses and a drink, and there was a good choice of starters and mains. We all chose different things and nobody had a complaint. Breakfast was just as good, with usual cereals and a full English, all self-service and as much as you wanted. Bar and waiting staff were pleasant too.
The rooms were comfortable and clean, and the food was excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful, especially Leon. He was so kind and really made our stay enjoyable. Thank you!
I’ve stayed here several times. The staff are generally helpful and friendly, but they seem to be under a lot of pressure from the workload and service expectations. At breakfast over the bank holiday, just two staff were looking after around 200 seats. They had to clear tables, restock food, keep things clean, check guests in, and cover reception at the same time. They were rushing around and couldn’t keep up. That feels like a management planning problem, not a lack of effort from the staff, and it makes mistakes and poor experiences hard to avoid. Housekeeping seems stretched too. With so many rooms assigned to each cleaner and limited time to get through them, I didn’t want to add more pressure by asking for a daily clean. Family rooms also need more storage. A wardrobe with just one hanger isn’t enough for a weeklong stay.
The hotel is modern and very nice, with a small restaurant inside the building. Food prices are reasonable, though drinks are expensive. Staying here was pretty painless, apart from the noise from children in the room next door. We were in bed before they were, and the noise made it hard to get to sleep. The walls seem quite thin. I’d give it five stars if parking weren’t paid, though the price is reasonable.
