Railway Ramblers' Rest

A brilliant, relaxed place in a great spot, and we’ll definitely return. Nikki and Terry have a lovely family-run approach and listen to what guests have to say. The room had very comfortable beds and a handy self-catering setup, with tea, coffee and milk provided. My dog settled in straight away, thanks to the bed, bowls and treats. There’s also an outdoor shower for washing off after muddy walks. The huge 14ft hot pool was a great way to end the day, with robes and eco friendly showers adding to the experience. There’s private guest parking with EV chargers too. Both people and dogs are treated so well here.

After a long walk, this was a fantastic place to stop, and the owners were friendly and had thought of pretty much everything. We liked having both a mini kitchen in the room and a larger shared kitchen, which made it easy to keep food costs down. The local cafe and pub discounts were useful too. The jacuzzi was a definite highlight for aching legs. The walls seemed fairly thin, and we weren't keen on the double bed being two smaller beds pushed together, with a crack down the middle. Still, we slept comfortably and would stay again.

A last-minute booking at Ramblers Rest saved the 15th edition of our annual canoeing get-together. Nikki was really helpful, and after a day on the River Dart, drinks in the hot tub were a great way to warm up and recover.

I was surprised by the hot tub and communal outdoor cooking area, since a work colleague had booked the place for me. It’s in a fab location for walks on the moor, and there’s great food down the road at the Prince of Wales pub. Great place.
