The restaurant and pub next door were faultless. The bar staff and chefs were lovely, nothing was a big deal, and the food was tremendous. It was very busy even midweek, which says a lot. I’d definitely stay again if work brings me down this way. I stayed at the berkshire arms Hotel from Sunday to Friday for work. The staff were welcoming whenever we spoke with them, the beds were comfortable, and the shower was amazing. The room lost a star because the heaters squeaked as they came on in both my room and my colleague’s. Wi-Fi was terrible in my room, though it was spot on elsewhere in the hotel and pub, so it may have been the room’s location. The shower is powerful and tends to soak the bathroom floor, so a shower door might help.

Meals were a highlight: everything was delicious, well cooked, nicely presented, and came in generous portions with plenty of choice. Breakfast was especially good and set us up for the day. Maria and her team made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. They were friendly and ready to help, and our spotless, comfortable, well-presented room made it easy to relax. The atmosphere was warm, with a lovely mix of comfort and character. Everything was well organised, and you could see how much care went into looking after guests. I had an amazing stay and would definitely love to come back.

We had a lovely weekend with friends for Newbury races. The staff were friendly and accommodating, the rooms spacious and comfortable, and the food excellent. It’s a warm, welcoming place, and I’d recommend it to anyone staying in the area.

The beef rib was very good, but the rest of the roast was uneven. The Yorkshire pudding was burnt, the roast parsnips were just boiled, and the pork came as two dry slices, with half the cut being solid fat. We came for Sunday roast again, but service was practically nonexistent. At least four staff were working, yet only the person at the bar seemed to be doing anything. The other three were hiding or hanging out and not engaging with customers.

A lovely pub and hotel with very nice rooms and helpful staff. Room rates and breakfast are reasonable.
