Holiday Inn Reading West by IHG

I've lived in padworth for 14 years and hadn't been to the hotel since it got new management. I chose it to meet my long-lost sister, and the welcome and service were amazing. They also had a Faulty Towers tribute, as they put on entertainment as well as weddings and other occasions. Hearing it all in the background was wonderful. I couldn't believe management didn't arrange anything temporary to keep flies off the food, like a handheld bat or a fan. We were paying £16 a day for breakfast, and I didn't fancy eating croissants, fruit, or meat that flies had crawled over. I raised the problem with staff, who said it was hot and doors were open for guests coming and going. They said a bug machine was due to arrive the next day, but I checked on each of the next two days and it still hadn't appeared. The breakfast was crawling with flies, and hygiene and food standards clearly don't seem to be a priority. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. I stayed three nights. The room was as expected, with a nice shower and a comfortable bed, though it could use sockets near the bed. I ate breakfast each day, unwillingly.

The buffet breakfast was a highlight, with plenty to choose from, including a full traditional English breakfast. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the hotel felt safe and well cared for. We enjoyed our two nights here. The room was very clean, spacious, comfortable, and had wonderful air conditioning. It was nice to have different kinds of pillows to choose from too. We were surprised how quiet it was despite being near a road, and we slept like babies. A quality, economical hotel, and we'd gladly stay again.

We brought our dog, and every staff member made him feel welcome and looked after him so well. The next morning, we were in a great spot for a walk along the nearby canal. The food was lovely, especially breakfast, which was cooked and presented excellently.
