The staff were so polite and capable, with that charm you get at an old-style place. It's like Travelodge, but with more character. Really good hotel, with friendly staff and good food.

The staff were very friendly, which was pretty much the only real plus. The hotel felt empty, and our room was old and in bad repair. It looked as if nobody had touched the place since the 80s. Some light fittings were hanging off the walls, and broken chairs were piled in the corner. If your idea of a good time is staying somewhere out of a horror novel, you might enjoy it.

The location is perfect, and if you're not too fussy, you can get a room for a fair price. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was good, though nothing special. I'd have appreciated a bowl of fresh fruit to take. We came to Reading to see friends and just wanted somewhere to sleep and shower. The room was generally OK, clean and practical, but the bathroom ceiling was black with mould. When I turned on the fan, it sounded like heavy machinery. Someone should take a look at it. One morning, I also noticed that a staff member smelled really strongly of cigarette smoke, very badly.
