The Crown at Playhatch

We stopped for lunch and were glad we did. I had half a rack of ribs with fries and salad, and the meat fell off the bone. My wife’s pork belly and potatoes were perfectly cooked too. My premium lager kept its head all the way to the last sip, so thumbs up to whoever looks after the pipes. Service was excellent, no problems at all. Would I recommend the place? Of course, without a doubt. Thanks to all the staff. I can’t comment on the rooms since we only ate there. We hadn’t booked, but got the last small table, as all the others were reserved. I’d say book ahead. I think you can eat in the bar too.

The portions were so generous that I took half my meal home. We had a lovely meal for six in a relaxed atmosphere, with easy parking and helpful staff. They brought a cushion for my mother when we needed one. I’d definitely go again.

The setting was really cosy, the service great, and the food very tasty at our company Christmas lunch. I started with oven squid, then had the bobotie, followed by banoffee pie. The presentation looked impressive in the pictures, and the flavours were even better. I’d definitely recommend it.

The carveries were delicious, and I’d definitely recommend them. I’d have liked an option for a smaller portion, though, and with that available I’d certainly go again. We hadn’t realised Sunday lunch had two sittings, one at 12 and another at 2:30, I think. That can be awkward if you want to eat between those times. Luckily, they fitted us in when we arrived later, at 12:30.
