I had to pay for the full stay upfront and then claim back the unused nights. The room was old, worn and not especially clean. I did eventually get to sleep, though there was noise, and you could hear people going up and down the stairs loudly. It was mostly comfortable, and convenient for a short stay. The bathroom had carpet instead of lino, which felt odd, and it clearly needed cleaning. The sink was a bit grubby. I only booked very late because my other nearby accommodation had flooded, and I was glad to find a bed. I stayed five nights and spent most of my time in the room when I wasn't out, though I had planned to stay longer. There's a bus stop opposite, which makes the location fairly convenient. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and took my soaking wet washing to be cleaned for £10 a load. It cost just £40-£45 a night. For the price, it's okay. I've stayed in cleaner, more modern hostels for less, but given the short notice and reasonable rate, I was glad to have somewhere to sleep.

My friend and I stayed here for the festival. The staff were so lovely, welcoming and helpful. The interior is very dated, but you get what you pay for.

The people who run the Tower House were friendly and happy to advise me about the area. I stayed there for eight weeks, Monday to Friday, while working in Reading, and it was full most nights. It's a working man's hotel, so don't expect the comforts of a chain. Still, the bedding was clean, fresh towels came daily, and there was hot water morning and night. My room had a TV and kettle. I tried breakfast once so I could comment on it. I had sausage, bacon, beans and toast, all served hot and of decent quality, and they offered tea or coffee too. It was by far the cheapest hotel I could find in Reading, and if I need a hotel there again, I'd first check whether the Tower House has a room. I moved out because I've now rented a room that's a little cheaper and gives me more freedom to cook.

The inside is run-down, with loose stair boards. Basic cleanliness should be manageable, but even that seems too much to expect. At these prices, the Travelodge on the motorway is much better value.

I was here for a short stay while working at the festival. The location is great, and everyone was helpful and welcoming. The room was just right, with a TV, shower, sink, and tea and coffee facilities. I'd stay again.
