Travelodge Reading Central

The location is fine for an overnight stay during the week, but the facilities were poor, dated and frankly unwelcoming. I've stayed at other Travelodge hotels before, and this one falls well below the group's mediocre standard. I used it for work trips, but I won't return. I know you get what you pay for, but I'd still expect some care, comfort and a reliable level of cleanliness.

The room was noisy much of the time. People watched TV loudly late at night or talked in the corridors, and the creaky doors were loud enough to wake me. The walls are thin, so you hear what's happening next door. At checkout, the cleaners knocked right at noon to remind me to leave. Given the cleanliness, their pushiness made me wonder what they were doing that required it. The pillows were hard and the bed wasn't very comfortable. There were some good points: the heating came on quickly when adjusted and stayed warm for a long time, the rooms were spacious, and reception staff were friendly and attentive. The hotel is close to the high street, so shops are easy to reach. But the bathroom was unclean and dated, like the rest of the hotel. Towels already had stains when I arrived, before I'd used any. I'd look for somewhere else in Reading.

The location is great, though this place really needs renovation. The design is outdated, the carpets are very old and worn, and unlike other Travelodges there's no bedside charging point.

The bathroom was worn and dated, and the shower in room 301 didn't work. I reported it, but got the impression nobody would fix it. The man at reception didn't even write it down. The room itself looked tired, with chipped furniture and skirting that was damaged and coming away from the wall. Breakfast was included in my rate, but I hadn't read the small print and was disappointed with the 'breakfast to go' I got.
