The service was very good and the renovation has been done well, but the photos and description make this place look a bit different from what it is. It’s a former roadside restaurant and fish and chip shop, with 12 rooms upstairs. The rooms are OK, but noise from the busy main road carries on late and starts again early. The mattresses were very soft and squishy. From the front, the view is of the car park and road; at the back it’s an industrial area with bright security lights all night. The main doors are noisy enough to make the bedroom doors bang, and the end room above the restaurant also gets noise from the swing doors below. The restaurant serves generous amounts, mostly fried, but there’s more focus on quantity than flavour. It wasn’t bad, just very oily. Clean and basic, and handy for touring, but not somewhere to relax.

The food tasted good and we’ll come back. There’s plenty of parking, and the restaurant updates are excellent. The menu has good choices, and the service was cheerful and friendly, with drinks and orders taken quickly. My wife’s steak arrived overcooked, so they took it back to redo it, but the chips came back cold. They gave her a free drink and took 10% off the bill. I hadn’t been here for over 20 years, and the makeover is very impressive.

I was here for work and found it a great alternative to Premier Inns, which I don’t like, at a similar price. The room was bright and airy, with good WiFi, and I felt welcome from all the friendly staff. The restaurant and bar serve lovely, no-frills home-cooked food. There’s plenty of free parking, and the location is easy to access. I’d highly recommend it for a budget stay.

The carvery was well cooked and generous, not dry or overdone. It cost £17.95 for a standard serving, and little kids eat free with an adult meal, so I thought the prices were reasonable. The place has been refurbished nicely, and the staff were really friendly. It can get busy, so booking ahead seems sensible.

The makeover is really impressive and nicely done. The fish and chip shop onsite is wonderful, and eating in the restaurant on Monday and Tuesday costs no extra.
