Turf Hotel

My wife was so stressed and upset by the stay; I’ve never seen her like that. We might have left, but our circumstances and the difficulty of booking somewhere else at short notice stopped us. This was one of the dirtiest rooms I’ve ever had. The shared bathroom and shower were dirty, and I hadn’t known we’d have to share them. We were told the hotel had no other guests, but I think three other rooms were occupied, and pub visitors could also get into the bathroom. I kept hearing the doors open and close. The only bedside table was badly damaged, there was an ironing board in our small room, and the TV was mounted at a right angle to the bed. The bin beside the sink hadn’t been emptied. We were told breakfast was at another hotel, a half-mile walk in the rain, and we had to get there before 9 am because the kitchen closed then. On Friday, lots of blue bags, which I think were laundry bags, had been left outside and along the passageway, with no safety measures in place.

Parking was a bit of a pain, though that’s a Richmond issue rather than the Turf Hotel’s fault. From the moment we arrived, the welcome was very good. The bar was lovely and the staff there were helpful. Our room was just what we needed, the meal was nice, and breakfast was spot on with great service. We’ll return, and if the service is the same, we’ll be happy.

Really friendly service and good value. The photo doesn’t do the food we ordered justice; it was very tasty and definitely worth doubling up on the burgers 🍔

The staff were amazing, breakfast was great, and there was a wonderful choice of ales. The room, though, was very unclean, with cobwebs on the ceiling. The toilet wouldn’t flush properly unless I removed the lid and held down the ball cock so it could fill with enough water. The shower leaked all over the floor. The window only opened about 6 inches, and there was no fan, which wasn’t good in 80 degree f weather.
