Black Swan Inn

We booked directly with the pub to get the best rate. It worked out perfectly for our function at the Black sheep brewery, with a nice room, good food and service, and a competitive price.

We wished we’d stayed longer. The staff were incredibly wonderful, and there are plenty of places to eat. The hotel even provides a booklet about local options. It’s also ideally located for lots of brilliant walks and activities.

The room was a great size, which makes the rest of the stay such a shame. It took hours to warm up because the heating hadn’t been turned on before we arrived. Then we found what could only be dog hairs all over the wooden floor. Disgusting, and thankfully we don’t have allergies. We should have been told when booking that it was a dog-friendly room. There was no hot water either, though the owner fixed that. Breakfast was in the dark, and the breakfast room was freezing. From talking to the owner, I gathered he’s losing money hand over fist and can’t afford to provide the basics. The place lacked atmosphere, perhaps because it was out of season, but if it’s open all year, service should be the same. We won’t be returning.

The clean room and bathroom made for a quiet place to relax, and we really enjoyed our time together on both visits. We’ve stayed here twice for weekends away, first for our anniversary in 2023 with my girlfriend, and recently for a Christmas trip with my now fiancée. The pub staff were pleasant both times, and we enjoyed the dinner and breakfast. I liked the liver pate and steak burger in the evening, the Yorkshire breakfast in the morning, and the cider on draft. I’d recommend it.
