Hellaby Hall Hotel, BW Signature Collection

We had a nice evening meal in the restaurant, and the gym, spa, and sauna were good. The sauna was really hot. The room was great, the location was good, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the young woman at the gym reception. We enjoyed our one-night stay.

Reception and catering staff were helpful, but that couldn't make up for the condition of the place. The rooms felt outdated, and many things were stained. Neither the rooms nor bathrooms felt clean. Serious renovation is needed. When I arrived, I thought I'd enjoy my stay. I was very wrong.

The spa treatments were good, and the outdoor hot tub was a nice treat. The pool, sauna, steam room, and spa pool were okay, but felt tired and generic, and the water was cool. The men's side has no lockers that can be locked with a coin like the women's. Nobody told me, so I had to leave my clothes in an unlocked locker and ask reception to hold my valuables. Not ideal, so bring your own lock. Our room was large, warm, and clean, though dated and a bit tired. The shower curtain kept sticking, which wasn't great. At dinner, the three-course set menu was better than we expected: goat's cheese mousse with little citrus gel pieces, beef shin, and a really good, rich apple crumble. The food was well presented, hot, and tasty, and restaurant service was great. Breakfast the next day was good, with good ingredients. We booked this spa weekend with the missus a week or two before New Year. Overall, it was a mixed but mostly good stay, and we rated it 4/5. It wasn't especially cheap or especially impressive, more middle of the road for the price. We probably wouldn't rush back for an overnight stay, but there were good highlights and we'd visit again for the restaurant or day spa.

8/10, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The spacious rooms had amazing, huge beds, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was wonderful, with lovely views over the garden. The hotel was quiet and relaxing, perfect for a peaceful stay. The sauna and steam room were great, and the pool area was quiet and clean, though the hot tub was freezing. For the £80 we paid, we got free breakfast and a wonderful stay, so it was great value. We'd recommend it and will be back soon.
