Travelodge Rotherham Central

The room felt fresh and clean, the beds were comfy, and the staff were really friendly. It was better than I expected, maybe because it's a new unit 🤷‍♂️. My one small gripe: there's a parking charge if you stay an hour past checkout 😅

The cinema and a few places to eat are less than a two-minute walk away, with shops about ten minutes on foot. Staff were really friendly, and the hotel felt clean, tidy and welcoming. It's only about two years old. We stayed for two nights and would highly recommend it.

The food was good, and the staff were very friendly even though they were extremely busy and under pressure. The room itself was very clean, though quite basic. Heavy rain had led to the floodgates being closed, which cut off the access road. We had to try several times before finding another route. The Travelodge is built above a car park, but the weather also meant the lifts and internal stairs were closed, so guests had to use the outside steps and got rather wet. Since that could affect wheelchair users, I would have expected the website to mention it, or at least to be told by email.

After the long drive from Scotland, I was exhausted and just wanted a shower and some rest. We were clearly four people, but the first staff member who served us seemed uninterested and gave us a room with only two beds. When I went downstairs to explain, the second female staff member was also unhelpful and said someone would come to sort it out. The staff member who arrived brought only a duvet and bedsheet, then asked where the bed was. I told him that wasn't acceptable. To his credit, he dealt with it very well and quickly arranged another room next door, which solved the problem. The two female staff members were unhelpful and could benefit from more customer service training. I also wonder why Travelodge puts coat hangers directly above the bed. It doesn't seem practical or sensible.
