The rooms were nice, though the pillows were quite firm and uncomfortable. It was hot in the room, but I can’t blame The Dun Cow for the weather. There was no air conditioning, only a fan, so we took the duvet out of its cover and managed to get through the night. The afternoon staff were unhelpful and, in my opinion, unprofessional. We arrived at 14:10 to check in on my son’s wedding day, needing to get changed and leave our bags before heading to a meal at the venue. I know check-in is normally at 15:00, but asked if either of our two rooms was ready. Otherwise, we’d have to leave the celebrations early to come back and check in. At first, a staff member just said, “check-in is 3 pm,” and seemed generally uninterested. When I asked again, someone offered to see if a room was ready. I’m not convinced they checked, as they didn’t go towards the rooms. We ended up changing in the toilets, which were disgusting, smelly and wet. It was upsetting on such an important day. As expected, we had to leave the wedding at 22:40 to return to the pub and check in. The staff on duty then were very helpful and surprised we’d had trouble earlier, as they usually let wedding guests check in a little early. By the time we had to change in the toilets, it was probably nearer 14:30.

The room was spacious and bright, with a good bed and a modern, well-fitted bathroom. It was great having an operating restaurant downstairs, with excellent food and service. The staff were welcoming, helpful and clearly well trained, and they seemed to care about guests. Free parking was another real plus, since parking in England can be such a rip-off. I don’t have any real complaints. It would be useful to have more cupboard and hanging space for stays longer than one night. Also, the windows seemed painted shut and weren’t easy to open, so fresh air was hard to get.

Nothing fancy, just a good, honest and welcoming Inn, and great value for money. The room was very clean and comfortable, with everything working and plenty of tea and coffee. The restaurant was nice, with table service and lovely staff. The food was about what you’d expect at this price. Breakfast was good, with lots of choice, though we had the traditional full English.

The pub looks lovely and sits in a lovely village, so I hope they can sort out the problems. Our experience wasn’t great: the food was either undercooked or overcooked, and although the accommodation was nice, the beds were quite hard.

The breakfast area was rather small for making drinks, and there weren’t enough tea cups. Our room radiator stayed on full for the whole stay. A young woman said she’d turn off the boilers, but that didn’t fix it. The window in Room 7 only opened partway, so we slept on the bed without covers. Check-in was easy and the staff were very friendly. The bar area was lovely, with a good range of drinks, and breakfast itself was lovely.
