We visited for a day trip and had a lovely three-course lunch. The tour was light, but included key historical details and was very well done. At £65 a head, I thought it was good value. I’m sure it’s a lovely place to stay too, with quirky rooms, lots of places to relax, and stunning views.

The sunset from the hot tub was lovely, and the weather made the fort feel like a great experience. But a lot of the stay felt poorly thought through for the price. Bars opened at different set times, which made it awkward to get a drink while exploring, and drinks cost a lot, including £14 for a large wine, plus a 12.5% charge even though we had to order at the bar ourselves. The place also felt short-staffed, and there was no music on the decking. The cabaret bar, the only one open after dinner, was shocking. Dinner was good, though we didn't know what we'd be served until it arrived. We were seated at a large shared table with other guests, which wasn't what we wanted for a romantic weekend, and there was no option to sit alone. A promised sword and champagne experience never happened, and we couldn't find staff to ask about it, so we gave up. Rusty water dripped in our room and marked the carpet. Breakfast was already running out of items at 08:40, and we were seated at round tables again. For what it costs, these problems need sorting out.

The rooms were huge, the food was good, and the staff were really friendly. Getting there is part of the adventure, with a 40-minute boat trip across the Solent. The fort looks pretty forbidding as you approach, then you're welcomed with a glass of fizz and taken on a tour before being left to explore at your own pace. I'd love to come back.

We spent the afternoon in the hot tubs and games room, and the whole overnight stay was fantastic. The weather was on our side too. After checking in at the Gunwharf, we shared the boat with people heading to Spitbank Fort and lunch guests for No Man's Fort. The staff handled the two groups well, sending the lunch visitors to the dining area while we went up to the open space and bar. The tour was really interesting, and our bags had already been taken to our rooms by the time we got the keys. Dinner at 8pm was excellent, with brilliant service. We were seated with other overnight guests and were happy with that, it made things sociable. Breakfast was self service in the atrium and very good. From check-in until we left the fort, the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. We'd highly recommend staying overnight.

We watched the sunset in the sun with a glass of fizz, and the room was beautiful. The food was amazing, and the staff were polite, attentive and happy to help with anything. Visiting had been on my bucket list, and it lived up to it. 100% amazing!
