16 Bolt Head

We've stayed here three times now and hope to come back again. The hotel overlooks South sands beach, Salcombe, and is well appointed with friendly staff. They made us and our five month old puppy feel very welcome. Breakfast was excellent, and we enjoyed dinner both nights. Guest parking is free, just across the road. Salcombe is a scenic part of South Devon on an estuary, with boating and water activities as well as lovely coastal walks.

We were staying at the hotel opposite and tried this restaurant because its reviews looked better than our hotel's. Service was not bad. The calamari was a little rubbery, though not too bad, and the seafood stew was very average. My wife left the butternut squash tortellini because it was bland and tasted a bit odd.

The terrace view at breakfast was a lovely way to start the day, and breakfast was included. On our first trip to Salcombe, staying at South Sands made things much more comfortable. The location is beautiful, the staff were friendly and attentive, our room was very well equipped, and we felt well looked after. I'll definitely find an opportunity to come back soon.

The food was the real highlight of our night. Among many lovely dishes, the whole baked plaice and the scrambled egg at breakfast were both cooked exquisitely. We stayed one night to celebrate my wife's 80th birthday, and the hotel was comfortable, in a lovely location, with extremely helpful and supportive staff. Many thanks to everyone there. Jonathan Ashe
