The room was clean, comfortable, and a good size, and the receptionist kindly let us check in early when we arrived in the morning. That made a real difference to our day. Parking was plentiful too, which kept things convenient. The only small snag was the narrow wardrobe, which wasn’t very practical for clothes storage and seemed a bit unusual. We were there for a wedding, and the hotel grounds were beautiful and well looked after, creating a lovely setting. The wedding was amazing, and the food from the hotel chef was delicious, including the sweet treats. We didn’t have time to try the spa, which looked very inviting. Breakfast was an excellent buffet with a wide choice: full English, freshly baked pastries, fruit, yogurt, cereal, and fresh bread. We had a really enjoyable stay for a special occasion and would definitely recommend the place.
The views over the country club are lovely. We’ve been here twice for company training, and the meeting rooms were spacious, clean, quiet, and well equipped. It gets busy with golfers and business people. From what I’ve seen, it’s a great place for meetings, golf, and wedding photos.
The golf course was a real highlight, with fast greens, a great halfway house and a brilliant pro shop. We also got a lovely surprise when the Leicester Tigers arrived ahead of their match with Sale Sharks. As Leicester fans, two of us got to chat with a few players and wish them luck. There were four of us on a golf break booked through a third-party golf organisation. I’d stayed here for work a few years ago, and the rooms still had that familiar Marriott standard: clean, comfortable and well equipped. The hotel suits all sorts of visits, from sports weekends to business trips and conventions. We enjoyed all the meals, and breakfast had plenty beyond the full English, including fruit, cereal and pastries. The Tempo Sports Bar had a great atmosphere and a good range of beers, including fabulous Guinness. It’s hard to find fault with the location, staff, food, rooms or facilities. We’ve all said we’ll be back for another golf break before too long.
The staff were brilliant and really went out of their way for us. Our room was lovely and spacious, though it was odd not having any sockets beside the bed. We came for a spa break, but the pool, sauna and steam room got very crowded at times, with lots of screaming kids. It could be hard to relax, or even find space to get in.
The cold really stood out. It was -7 °c outside, but the radiator in our room was set to zero, and I ended up shivering in a jumper at breakfast. I know costs have been hard for everyone since covid and the cost of living crisis, but a warm room seemed a reasonable thing to expect. Instead, the room felt far from the luxury I’d imagined: the decor, carpet and furniture were dated, and we had just one hot chocolate sachet to share on the side of an old, ugly bed. The coffee sachet the next morning was cheap, and breakfast coffee came from an ordinary machine. There was a good selection at breakfast and the sausages were good, though most of the cooked food was lukewarm. Our wedding day had been beautiful, and we’d chosen this hotel as a special end to the celebration. Check-in was a mess, reception staff weren’t helpful, and the shift manager was nasty and rude. He leaned over the desk and pointed a finger in my face. The hotel experience left a stain on our special day, and we’ll try not to remember this part of the wedding. The next night we stayed at the Travelodge at Salford Quays, where we got a friendly smile, a warm room and a very pleasant night’s sleep.
