The main part of the hotel feels dated, but it was clean and comfortable. I had a single room with a lovely big shower in a beautiful, though small, bathroom. The old-fashioned bedding spoiled the look, and the bed was hard. Breakfast was nice, and my soft-boiled egg was cooked perfectly.

Breakfast was included, with a choice of cereals as well as a cooked breakfast, and the price was very reasonable. We stayed on a Saturday night. Parking had space for about ten cars, with around five spaces left when we arrived at 16:30. The owner welcomed us and explained breakfast and checkout. Inside, the hotel is old-fashioned, but it doesn't pretend to be anything else. Our double room had a small TV we didn't use, plus a shower and toilet. The bed was comfortable enough and we slept well. It wasn't very noisy, though we could hear the corridor floorboards creaking from the room. A nice stay, as long as you aren't expecting glitz and glamour.

The room was basic but clean and tidy, and the staff were friendly. The building itself is a bit old and tired. Breakfast was nice, with turkey rashers instead of bacon and beef sausages, as the food is halal. There's no evening meal, but there's a pub, a Chinese restaurant, and takeaways nearby. I got excellent fish and chips from the chippy opposite and ate them in my room. Good value for the price. I travel for work regularly and have paid much more for far worse.

I've stayed here twice with my wife, and both rooms were so small they seemed right for one person, not two. The floors creak and barely any water comes out of the shower. On our first visit, we had to ask staff to change the sheets because they smelled odd. The place badly needs updating. The furniture doesn't match, and the washroom doors need replacing. It's okay for a short stay.

The only good thing about our visit was that the bed was comfortable and clean. Everything else felt very tired and in need of modernization, from the front car park to the room bathrooms. My room even had a grotty false office-style ceiling. Breakfast was limited, with turkey bacon rashers and the strangest cheap sausage, nothing like what I expect from a full English. I can't even say it was cheap. A very sorry experience, 0/5.
