I lived at peel park quarter RAN in 2020-2021. Years later, at 24, I still can't sleep alone in my own home because of what happened there. I wish I’d pushed harder with the police at the time, and I wouldn’t recommend living there. When something goes wrong, I believe they put staff ahead of students’ safety. One night, a security guard named Joe used his master key to let himself into my flat. The lights were off, but two of my flatmates were awake in the living room on their phones. I’d just gone to my room to get ready for bed. He didn’t knock or announce himself. My flatmate and I were in the university pole fitness society, and we had a pole set up in the shared space. After hearing my two female flatmates talking to a man, I went into the living room to see what was going on. Joe said he’d spotted the pole from the courtyard and wanted to look at it. He asked which housemates used it, then asked us to invite him over next time we practised. We all felt uncomfortable and told him to leave. We reported it to management, who initially said they’d take it seriously. Later they said their “investigation” found Joe had entered because other residents had complained about noise from our flat. When we asked for evidence, like CCTV, they couldn’t provide any. Joe hadn’t mentioned a noise complaint and said he came because of the pole. Management interviewed me and my flatmates separately about what happened, then shifted the focus to the pole. I said it wasn’t a permanent structure and wouldn’t damage the flat, but they arranged a maintenance visit to inspect it. The outcome was that Joe had to take an online “ethics in the workplace” course, and he stayed on security at the ppq buildings. I still had to see him regularly after he knew we’d reported him.

The harassment made me feel unsafe and terrified, and it badly affected my mental health. My advice would be to keep as far away from this accommodation as you can. I was bullied, and my repeated reports went nowhere. I spent the semester sharing a flat with drug users, and no one acted on my complaints. The walls are so thin you hear everything from every direction, making it hard to feel comfortable or safe. There’s also a serious mouse infestation throughout the accommodation. After the semester, I extended my stay for the summer because, as an international student, I had no other option. They made me leave my room and move to another building because summer camp students from Saudi Arabia were arriving. Flies and insects kept getting into my room all summer. In the second flat, the sofa was completely burnt, so there wasn’t a proper place to sit. The summer camp students also repeatedly verbally harassed us. We reported it several times, but the company ignored us and seemed to put profit ahead of residents’ safety and wellbeing. They reportedly made £2 million or possibly more from those students.

Good luck with this place, it’s a real hit or miss. Some staff are really helpful, others are useless. Our drains still have problems. The day staff didn’t care or fix them, but the lovely night staff came and cleared water that had flooded most of the flat. The rooms are okay and the kitchens aren’t terrible, but the walls are basically paper thin. You hear everything, so for a quiet evening you’re better off studying in the library than trying to relax in your room. Laundry costs around £5 a load and does the job. It’s not horrendous, just soul crushing. The grounds are very rat infested, though I love rats. I’ve never seen them get into the buildings, but you should bear that in mind.

I'm not one to leave bad reviews for no reason, but the way my daughter has been treated is despicable. Dads, steer clear. Lots of drug users hang around the complex and pester the students.

Awesome. Security at reception is good, and the vending machines are 10/10. You might also get woken up by a loud alarm every Wednesday at 11am.
