The bed was really comfortable, and the butter croissants at breakfast were great, to be honest. It was only a ten-fifteen minute walk to the city. The TV kept turning itself on and distracted me until I turned the volume to zero, which meant I couldn’t get to sleep before that. The walls are a little thin too, as we could hear the people next door talking at a relatively quiet volume. Still, it was alright.
The location was the biggest plus, pretty close to the city center, though the busy street next to it made things a bit noisy. I booked two nights for a Manchester city-break because it was cheap and I wasn’t expecting much. The room was quite small and dated, but pretty clean when I arrived. The bed felt a bit small for two, though it was fine overall. The shower door and window wouldn’t fully close, and the TV didn’t turn on. I was also uneasy about staff asking for our credit card details as security in case we broke something. We’d paid online, so I thought they already had our card information, but they still asked for it when we arrived before giving us the room key. Overall, it was okay.
What made this stay worse was reception asking for my bank card and PIN, which felt extremely suspicious and unprofessional. They also refused to store my luggage, something I’d expect a normal hotel to do. The reception staff were unfriendly from arrival, and the service was very, very bad. The room condition was shocking. The bed squeaked constantly and was much too small for two, despite being described as a double. The rooms were horrible and completely unacceptable. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. I’d never recommend this place to anyone. Zero stars if possible.
The room was mostly as expected, but the bed was on wheels and rolled around now and then. Other things fell apart: the headboard lights, the shower height adjustment, which didn’t work so we had to use a handheld shower, and the TV, which wasn’t connected to WiFi and didn’t work despite being listed in the facilities on booking.com. The bathroom barely fits one small person, there’s no lift, and we had to drag our luggage up the stairs. For £170 for two nights, it definitely wasn’t worth it. At arrival, a very arrogant receptionist asked for my bank card details, including the long card number, expiry and CVV, which immediately set off alarm bells. Twice in one night, while we were trying to sleep with no lights or noise, someone knocked and said there had been a noise complaint, asking if my name was renae, which it isn’t. There was another knock tonight as I’m writing this, and we ignored it because it was getting extensive. The staff were very rude, apart from one man on the night shift. There’s a Travel Lodge not far away by a retail park for the same amount and a much better stay. I wouldn’t recommend this place, won’t stay again, and would give it 0/5 if I could.
My friend, who is blind, stays here often and really appreciates the help the staff give him. The hotel’s also right by Manchester’s Victoria Train & Tram Station, and I’d say it’s probably the best value in Manchester. They offer a discounted rate for people staying alone in a room, too.
