We were impressed with the service from start to finish. The staff were friendly, efficient, and attentive, and we were never left waiting long. The restaurant was packed with locals when we ate there, which seemed like a good sign, so I'm glad we booked. The menu had plenty of choice, including some unusual options. Our meals came quickly, piping hot and very tasty, and the fillet steak was cooked superbly. We booked this quaint, historic and quirky hotel on the day we needed it, unsure whether we'd be travelling that day. It was close to the cathedral we planned to visit. The stairs up to our room were uneven, just as they must have been hundreds of years ago. The room was well appointed, with a modern bathroom and shower, though the water ran hot and cold at times. We tried the Sunday carvery on our first visit and really enjoyed it. The meat was cooked just right, the Yorkshire puddings were huge, and there was a great choice of vegetables. Desserts were lovely too, especially the chocolate delice. Attentive staff and a good atmosphere.

We were charged for the rooms twice, and the manager's blunt manner didn't help. Some of the other staff were absolutely lovely. The place was always busy, so maybe we just had a bad couple of days. A week before our stay, despite booking well ahead, we were told our twin room couldn't be provided. We ate there on the first night and it was clearly popular, but after sitting down at 8, we had to chase someone to take our order at 8:30. The food didn't arrive until 9:30. We'd have understood the wait if staff had managed it better. At breakfast, both sets of eggs were undercooked, and one serving had an extra bit of shell. Disappointing.

The room was spotless and beautifully presented, and having a roll-top bath with a Cathedral view made it feel extra special. We had a perfect stay at The Chapter House. Dinner was delicious, especially the ribs and beef, and breakfast the next morning was just as impressive. Flawless from start to finish!

We don't get a date night very often, but when we do, this is always our first choice. We had a lovely evening at The Chapter House and treated ourselves to fillet steak, cooked perfectly with a delicious monkeygland sauce. We've eaten here plenty of times and the food has always been superb. The service is top notch too.
