The public gardens across from the hotel have lovely views over the sea and surrounding area, and tell you about the building's history. We were there for a family function and found the staff very friendly. The room was basic but had what we needed, and everything was clean and tidy. Breakfast was cooked to order with decent ingredients. A socket by the bed would have been handy for charging my phone, though I know that's a picky complaint. I'd definitely stay again 🙂

We stayed one night while walking the Cleveland Way and were very pleased with it. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was a perfectly fine continental spread. Our room was comfortable, clean, and good value. Thanks!

Saltburn is a lovely holiday spot, with beautiful beaches and a promenade and plenty of great places to eat and drink. The hotel, though, wasn't worth £100 a night for us. Over our five-night stay, the bins weren't emptied and milk and other supplies weren't replenished. We also didn't get fresh towels or more toilet rolls until, after three days, I had to track someone down to ask. The bathroom was poor: no rails or hooks for towels, just a cord across the room, and the rusty shower control wouldn't move to adjust the temperature. There was only one toilet roll and no spare. Breakfast was the same full English with a fried egg every day, with no other choices. We were even told we were lucky to get it, though it was only nice occasionally. At check-in, there was no reception desk, so we found a man in the bar. He wanted the balance for our stay before handing over the key to room 8. One night we came back from dinner to find around a dozen very drunk people doing karaoke. My husband and I enjoy a drink, but that was a surprise.

Luckily, I was only there for one night. The shower was the worst part: the controller was broken, so it only gave very hot water. When I mentioned it, the man said I should have told him and he could have come up to fix it, which made it sound like it had been broken for ages and nobody had got around to it. There was no one at reception when I arrived, and I had to find someone in the bar. My suitcase, which Sherpa had delivered earlier, was downstairs in the office instead of my room, so I had to go looking for it. The lift was broken too. Having read the other negative reviews here, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. This is a “No Star Hotel.”

The staff were warm and so helpful throughout our three nights with a friend. They were constantly cleaning and clearly worked hard, yet nothing felt like too much trouble. Our basic room was spotless, cosy, warm, and quiet, with fresh-looking linen, comfortable beds, plenty of hot water, and a lovely view. The old building is beautiful and very well located, with a faded grandeur about it. I've paid a lot more at hotels that look impressive but don't get these basics right. I understand the fairly new owners are renovating gradually. It'll take time and investment, but they seem to have started with the right priorities, and I wish them well.
