I really enjoyed staying in the apartment. It was spotless and very comfortable, and handy for visiting Whitby, saltburn on sea and nearby runswick bay. I’d recommend it to anyone coming to the area, and I’ll book again next time I’m here.

There were 13 of us, and Mulgrave house was a great fit. We hired it through Sykes cottages. It has six bedrooms plus a self-contained flat underneath. The living and dining area and kitchen are on the ground floor. Upstairs, the middle floors have two large doubles, one small double and a single, all with ensuite bathrooms. On the top floor there’s a double, a twin and a big bathroom. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The location worked really well, with a couple of food-serving pubs within walking distance and the Cleveland way nearby for a pleasant walk to Staithes. The co-op is a short drive away. The one drawback was the cutlery, there wasn’t enough for everyone. We brought a dish on Friday and made breakfast on Saturday, and had to improvise a bit when eating.

We came back twice during our stay in Runswick. It’s a lovely family-run café, with plenty of space, a well-stocked bar and a varied lunch menu for meat eaters and vegetarians. The cakes were a great selection too. We returned for Sunday lunch, which was beautifully cooked and came with plenty of extra veg if you wanted it. Baby friendly as well, and definitely worth a visit in the area.

Check-in service was great and really friendly, and the room looks amazing. Such a nice touch to have scones with the coffee setup. I hope they were homemade, they tasted amazing.

The food was excellent in both quality and presentation, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. The menu seemed fairly expensive for such a small place, though the prices were very reasonable. I had a really nice dining experience and would gladly recommend it.
