We stopped here for lunch and it was so good, I’d happily recommend it as a breakfast stop too, or for staying overnight. The homemade ready meals in the fridge and hot food made to order were delicious and very reasonably priced. There are eggs from their own chickens for sale as well. It’s a lovely spot, with welcoming hosts and clean, pleasant facilities for campers. Places like this are hard to find in Orkney.

I pitched my tent here in February, in rain and really strong winds. Claire even offered me a bed in the bothy in case the weather became too much, which was so kind of her. I managed in the tent, and the views were beautiful, including from the glamping pods. Such a tidy little place with great facilities.

We were sorry to have booked just one night at Ayres Rock Hostel & Campsite. Sanday is stunning, with long, quiet beaches, and we saw sea otters and short-eared owls while we were there. The site sits right by the beach, looking out across the bay. It was clean, peaceful and well looked after. The showers could do with an upgrade, though Claire and Phil are already making plans for that. Sunset was lovely, and breakfast the next morning was one of the best we’ve had on our travels. Phil’s chef experience really comes through. Claire and Phil are wonderful hosts, and this is a special place.

We had such a lovely time in the cottage that we’ve been telling friends and family about it since we left. The room and its views were just right, and we’re already looking forward to coming back. Claire and Phil made the trip feel extra special. We were there for two nights and had breakfast brought to us each morning. They thoughtfully provided a little breakfast for our toddler too, which we really appreciated. Everything was very clean: the single-room cottage had a bed, table and chairs, two big armchairs, a kitchen and a wet room. Highly recommend staying here. Thank you from Polly, Jake and Betty x
