Claremont House

Breakfast was lovely and there was a good choice, though it would have been nice to have some kind of pasty as an option. At first there wasn't any staff around, so we weren't sure where to sit or whether we should help ourselves. A woman eventually told us to sit wherever we liked. The service could have been better, but it wasn't poor. At reception, we had to ring the bell both when we arrived and when checking out. The woman who greeted us was welcoming and gave us a lovely farewell, but it would have been good to see staff available when needed. We had a great view and could just about see the sea. The bedroom was spacious and tidy, and the bathroom was clean but very small and confined. The carpets looked stained and grubby, and the bed frame was a bit dusty. There were lots of cobwebs, especially in the corners and around the windows by the blinds, including above the bed as shown in the picture. The bed wasn't comfortable for us, and the pillows were too soft, though that's down to personal taste. Paint was chipping and the walls were cracking. The rooms and decor felt dated and in need of some care. There was free parking when we arrived. Be aware that there are lots of stairs and no lift, and nobody offered to help with our bags, so this place won't suit anyone who struggles with stairs. Overall, it was a lovely stay and one night was enough for us. I did feel it was a little overpriced. We'd return if things improved, but otherwise we wouldn't. Thank you for having us.

I arrived feeling very ill, and the owner went out of her way to make us comfortable while I recovered. I'm extremely grateful, especially as I have Crohns. The Claremont is a lovely place, with very clean rooms and a nice dining room. Breakfast included fruit, cereals, yoghurt, or a cooked option, and it was all very good. I'd recommend staying here.

The Glen suite was at the top and had fantastic views, though it got very warm on the third floor in summer, as you'd expect. The furniture felt a bit dated, but that's a matter of taste. Breakfast was good, the staff were lovely, and there was plenty of parking. Our room was clean and had all the amenities we needed. We'd definitely stay again.

The breakfast room was bright and well laid out, and the service was cheerful and attentive. Breakfast was nicely cooked and filling. We also had a warm welcome on arrival and found the room very clean and well equipped. It was quite a climb to the second floor, with no lift, but that wasn't really an issue for us.
