The bar lady was cheerful and enthusiastic, but the food was pretty average. The veggie burger was very basic and overpriced for what you got. The lamb shank didn't have much meat, the mash was dry, and the broccoli was almost raw. We went at 1pm on Saturday and were the only people there.

The owners and staff are very welcoming, and it's pet friendly. This country pub is under new management and has some accommodation, plus a small restaurant with a limited but nice menu. There are wood burners in both the bar and restaurant. Well worth a visit.

We ate for under £21 and left with no complaints. The food is honest, well cooked, and fairly priced: scampi, pie, proper burgers that don't fall apart in brioche buns. The menu feels like the 80s or 90s, and that's part of its charm. The restaurant is nicely decorated, with a huge fireplace, and the drinks and beer are great too. It brought back memories of having a proper local, which are getting harder to find among gastro pubs and pricey mains. If you want fancy food and small portions, this probably isn't your place, but for a family meal of simple, well-made dishes, you'll love it. I was even smiling at the thought of prawn cocktail. We'll bring the kids next time.

I've stayed overnight here two years running. The rooms are excellent, though some doorways are low, which I noticed at 6'4". The beds are really comfortable, the staff are friendly, and both dinner and breakfast were excellent.

It was quiet when we visited on a Monday night, which suited us perfectly. The atmosphere was friendly, the food and drinks were lovely, and the staff were wonderful, especially Miranda the Landlady. A great spot for an evening, and totally recommended!
