Dessert was the best part for me. I loved the chocolate pudding with custard, and on an earlier visit the sticky toffee pudding was delicious too, though I had to ask for extra sauce because it was a bit short at first. With more sauce, it was spot on. The meats and roast staples were good. This time I had roast chicken and my friend had roast beef, both tender and well cooked. The Yorkshire pudding was excellent, and the roast potatoes and parsnips were very good as well. Some sides were disappointing. The red cabbage with raisins wasn’t to either of our taste, and we both left it. The cauliflower cheese seemed undercooked, and the sauce over it didn’t taste good. On a previous visit, the steak pie was nice, but its chips were oily and not crisp. My friend enjoyed the lasagne that time. So the mains, especially the meat and classic roast parts, are done well, while the sides vary. Desserts are worth leaving room for.

We booked a table at the last minute for Easter Sunday lunch and were greeted warmly, then seated straight away. The seasonal vegetables were plentiful and lovely, and both our meals were gorgeous as always. I had belly pork and my wife chose roast beef. The portions were very good too. We’ll definitely return and would recommend it.

There were eight of us, and our rooms were beautiful. Dinner that evening and breakfast the next morning were delicious, and we had a lovely, memory-making stay. At first there was some frustration because they thought we’d booked a meal instead of four rooms. Once that was sorted, the landlady had heard me being frustrated. I sincerely apologised, and she made sure the evening and the rest of our stay were amazing. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you 💖💖💖

The food was tasty and home cooked, and service was good. It’s a traditional pub with a log fire and a lovely atmosphere. We’re staying in the area with a little one and trying to keep to her routine where we can, so it was helpful that this pub, unlike others nearby, starts serving food at 4.30pm. There’s a good choice of vegetarian dishes and a good children’s menu. Recommended!

We had family Christmas dinner here on Christmas Day, and the welcome was great. From the starters onwards, the food was far beyond what you’d expect, even from excellent pub grub. We had turkey, beef, and salmon Wellington for our mains, all first class, with a great range of carefully prepared, delicious vegetables. The food was restaurant quality and good value, and the service was friendly and attentive. Don’t miss this place!
