The room was filthy and in very poor condition. I paid £336 for two nights in room 6, a family room for my mum, my seven-month-old baby and me. It was far too expensive for what we got. We had to climb six flights of stairs with the baby and all our luggage. The furniture didn't match, the paint was chipped, the carpet was dirty, the bedding felt unclean, the sink was stained, and the wallpaper was bubbled and grubby. There was dust on the bedside table, and dirty nets hung six inches below the crumpled, dirty curtains. The woman working there showed us to the room and said, “if you don’t stay both nights, leave the keys in the room and let me know.” That says a lot. I had to stay one night because there was nowhere else for me and the baby. Mum and I were itching all night, and in the morning I found a live beetle in my bed covers. We left after the first night. I tried to reach the owner by phone and in person, but Booking.com told us the hotel wouldn't refund anything, not even the second night. I'm appalled. The place is unhygienic, and it's soured my view of Scarborough and Booking.com, which didn't check the property or help me get a refund.

We had a spacious room on the third floor, looking out over the gardens at the front. The en-suite was excellent, with a good walk-in shower and a table, chair, mirror and light for doing make-up. The room was cosy and clean, and there was plenty of tea and coffee. The owner was friendly and knew the area well. We enjoyed our two-night stay just over a week ago, our second visit to this hotel, and hope to return next year.

We didn't stay here, we only asked about luggage storage. The woman was rude and rushed us to decide, asking 10 quid per bag for one day's storage. It felt greedy. A little kindness wouldn't hurt. Then she said we might have Covid. If she was really concerned about herself, she should've worn a mask before approaching us. Or was it because we're Asian? What a racist!

The heating came back on around 8am, but from about 10 or 11pm the night before the room was freezing. We checked in at 9pm, and when I got up to brush my teeth it was already very cold. Outside, the seagulls were so loud at 5 or 6 in the morning that I couldn't sleep, but the room was too cold to get up. I paid £158 for one night through Booking.com and was shocked to find we'd been given a basement apartment. The website hadn't said it was in a basement, though they called it a hotel. Check-out was at 10am. There was no breakfast or entertainment on site. It wasn't worth the money, and I wouldn't recommend it.
