Crown Spa Hotel Scarborough by Compass Hospitality

We booked a deal directly with the hotel and had rooms at the back, but were pleasantly surprised by the quality and service. The staff were so friendly and professional, especially the manager and waitress. Rooms were warm, with a good shower and a very comfortable bed. There’s also a nice spa and a social area where you can sit, play games or chat after dinner. Good location, lovely stay, and we’ll be back.

The sea view and location are lovely, but the stay didn’t meet the standard I expect from a 4-star hotel. I’d put it closer to 2 stars based on my experience. The room and bathroom were unclean, and the carpets were ripped and dirty. There was barely enough tea, coffee, and milk for two. Parking is £10, and even after paying you might not find a space. I wouldn’t stay again.

The spa and pool were good, and our sea-view room was spacious with great views. But the carpet had more ripples than the Alps, and the room wasn’t made up. The bed wasn’t made, and the tea, coffee, and milk weren’t replenished. For a hotel described as 4-star, that’s poor service. We were here as a couple for Valentine’s. This place could be really good, but it needs work.

The restaurant staff were lovely, and Miguel deserves a special mention for looking after us so well. He’s a great guy with a fantastic work ethic and a real asset to the hotel. When we arrived, the reception team quickly sorted out a lovely executive double suite and offered the deal we’d originally booked, with bed and breakfast, an evening meal, and a bottle to take away with the meal. We’d first been booked through Groupon at the sister hotel, Norbreck, but the package wasn’t actually available there. Carl at Norbreck redirected us and helped us out, so thanks to him too. We had a really enjoyable pre-Christmas stay and will return.
