The Avondale

Parking was a hassle. There was only street parking, and each time we came back we had to walk 100 yards. Wi-Fi worked well on my laptop but not at all on my phone. For an old building, though, the room was surprisingly good, clean and well-equipped. Breakfast was good too, but service slowed down a little when it got busy.

The bed was comfortable, the linen and towels were excellent, and breakfast was very good. We also had excellent, friendly service. A few updates in our ensuite room would have made this a five-star review: new chair covers and a toilet seat, fresh sealant around the shower tray, a repair to the shower door, and repairs or replacements for the thermostatic valves on both radiators.

The staff were lovely and friendly, and my room was clean with tea and coffee facilities. I arrived at 7pm to find no one on duty, so I had to get the keys from a box by the front door. Noise from outside seemed amplified, though that may have been because I was in the room at the front of the hotel. I can't say anything about breakfast, as I was out both mornings before it started at 7:45.

The owners were really welcoming, and the room was clean and nice. The bathroom could do with an update, but it wasn't a dealbreaker. We'd recommend staying here.
