The room was advertised as a double, but it was actually a 3/4 bed. The bed base was stained, and I didn’t dare check the mattress. The bedside units were chipped and flaking. Cleaning was poor too, with gunk on the shower and its dial, a pube, someone else’s hair, and hairs on the bedding, even though the bedding did look freshly put on. It would be an easy fix if the room were cleaned properly. The radiators switched off around 10 pm, then the room got absolutely freezing very quickly. There was no heater and no spare blanket, so I was awake most of the night and slept in a hat. Quite possibly the worst night’s sleep I’ve had in a long time. I wouldn’t stay here again if someone paid me.

The room was basic, there was no parking, and the bed wasn’t very comfortable.

The rooms are totally shocking. If I could give a big fat zero, I would. The bathroom floor was dirty, the curtains were hanging off the rail, and neither of the two bathroom lights worked, making it dangerous to shower or use the toilet in the evening or at night. The bathroom door did close, but its edging was hanging off. The bed base was a small double with a double mattress, totally unexplainable. The heating was on all night when it wasn’t cold at all. For a long weekend, we got just two tea bags, six coffees and four milks, and had to travel to buy tea and milk because the local shop was out of action. Staff, mmmm, what staff? There were keys left in the doors, and we were told there wouldn’t be any staff available for the weekend. The outside door was left open all night with no security at all. On Saturday night, people from the pub across the way were using the toilets. And parking? None. I’d suggest anyone look up the RED ADMIRAL HOTEL, just a few minutes up the road and totally brilliant. If the owner of the pub / hotel isn’t interested in running it, let someone else have a go and try to make the business work for the greater good of the community.

The woman who checked us in and served drinks was really nice. When she found out we had our fully grown German Shepherd with us, she looked for the biggest room she could find, then realised we were already in the largest one, room 5. That was kind of her. The rooms are a bit dated, but at this price we weren’t surprised. Ours was clean, with a comfy bed and powerful shower, and we enjoyed the stay. It was cheap per night. There’s free parking a 30 second walk away, or two spaces outside the hotel.

We were glad to find somewhere to stay over the bank holiday weekend, and the price was decent for such a busy weekend. The room was clean, and the towels and linen were clean too. The location was convenient, with food options nearby. We were there for two nights of hiking in the area. The accommodation was very basic and dated, with no contact from staff or clear instructions. The back door was open, so there was no security.
