I came here hoping to relive a wonderful childhood holiday, and somehow managed to make the memory even better. I’ve nothing but love for this place. This self-catering let is ideally placed for the 3 Peaks Walk, almost at the foot of Pen Y Ghent, with the trail passing right by the front door. You do hear hikers setting out before sunrise and chatting among themselves. I started watching them as I imagine Romans watched gladiators entering the Coliseum. Joking aside, there’s plenty to see around here. Settle is a lovely town, and Ribblehead Viaduct and Hull Pot are strikingly atmospheric. Malham Cove is nearby too, reached by a breathtaking drive across the moors in brilliant September sunshine.

There are lovely walks nearby, and Settle and Skipton are close enough to visit. From Horton-in-Ribblesdale station you can also catch a train to Carlisle. The Stables is cosy, comfortable and very well equipped, with countryside views out front and the churchyard behind. The owners were really pleasant and helpful, and the pub is barely a two-minute walk away.

We’ve stayed here twice, and I’d happily come back again. It’s a relaxing cottage with great views and everything we needed. The downside was the lorries that thundered past around 6am from Monday to Friday. There were a lot of them.

The place was spotless when we arrived, and the location is lovely. I’ll visit again.

A former stable block turned into a lovely, quirky holiday cottage. It works well for a peaceful break or as a starting point for walks around the area.
