The beer tasted as if the taps hadn't been cleaned in at least ten years, and the food was almost entirely unacceptable. The staff also couldn't seem to handle any request without pulling faces, whether it was help with luggage in a building with no lift or dealing with problems. Our bed was hard and had springs poking out; when we asked for help, they gave us another sheet. The shower pressure was ridiculously weak, and the bathroom always smelled bad. The rooms are ancient, with single-glazed windows that made the temperature unpleasant and let the street feel like it was in the room with us. Honestly, it was still better than hell.

Breakfast was barely worth having. We had to order butter separately for our toast and ask for tea cups, since the tables weren't reset between guests. The bar wasn't much better, the beer tasted like the taps had been dirty for years. As for the rooms, you could apparently have Wi-Fi, a comfortable bed, or a quiet room, but not all three. Even clean sheets without a foot smell weren't guaranteed. Staff seemed unable to answer anything without saying, “I'm new here.” We gave it one star only because zero wasn't an option. Whether you're travelling for business, on a romantic break or with family hoping for a quiet night, I'd sooner sleep under a freeway bridge than stay in this s*** hole. This place is a joke, and it's the mean kind at your expense.

There were plenty of bars and places to eat nearby, and the hotel was very close to the centre of Seven oaks. I was there for a business stop and had a lovely stay, with great service and breakfast.

Downstairs looked nice enough, but upstairs was grubby and seemed untouched by decorating for about 30 years.
