The staff were friendly and quick, and one person, I think his name was Louie, was especially helpful with directions and ideas for things to do nearby. When we ran out of soap, he brought up another bottle straight away. I did get a gin and orange juice after asking for vodka and Coke, which was a funny mix-up, but it didn't outweigh the good service. The hotel felt a bit old-fashioned, with dated decor and fittings, but it was perfectly fine for a short stay. Good value for a couple of nights on the Isle of Sheppey.

The garden had been made special for my friends, and there was plenty of parking. The Abbey Hotel was clean, with well-kept facilities. I was there for a friend's vow renewal, not for an overnight stay or a meal, so I can't rate those parts. The ceremony was lovely, and the manager and other staff were professional, helpful and very nice.

I told them in advance I'd arrive at 23:10, and got to the property at 23:06. We had agreed they'd leave the keys by the door, but there were none. Reception was closed, and I couldn't find an out-of-hours or emergency number anywhere. I was left without a place to stay and waited until 2 am for Booking.com to find me somewhere else. The receptionist's handling of it was irresponsible.

We slept really well for both nights, with no traffic noise around this quiet location. It was nice to look out onto the garden and open the doors when the weather was good. The staff were lovely and friendly, and both breakfasts and our evening meal were faultless. Very good value for money.

The one bright spot was a kind, professional woman on the morning shift. She told me I could use the irons kept by reception, though by then I'd already driven back to London to fetch my own. Before that, a receptionist had rudely told me they didn't provide irons and I should bring one from home. The manager said he'd check, but nothing changed. We came to Hotel Abbey in Sheerness as a group of four friends, booked four rooms for a week, and had planned to stay around a month and a half. We left after that first week. From arrival, the staff's attitude felt rude and unwelcoming, and at breakfast the next morning we felt like they didn't want to serve us. The rooms were in bad shape. The mattresses were so uncomfortable we could feel the springs, and several rooms had a strong unpleasant smell. Requests for shower gel were met with the same attitude. One day a staff member started to bring some, but the man from reception stopped her and told me to buy it at a shop instead, even though it was usually provided daily. The Wi-Fi kept disconnecting and barely worked. When I asked about it, I was told to use my mobile data. I complained about the receptionist and emailed customer service, but more than a month later I still hadn't had a reply. Apart from that one kind woman, the whole stay was disappointing, with poor rooms and staff who seemed not to care about guests. I wouldn't recommend Hotel Abbey in Sheerness.
