Cubley Hall

We got a call while driving up on Friday to say the kitchen would be closing early because of the weather. Since we were due to arrive late that evening, they even offered to make us a sandwich for when we got there, which was thoughtful. The staff make the hotel feel especially welcoming, and there’s a picturesque view from the place. It’s got everything, though the shower could do with an update. We had a really great weekend stay and will return.

I was visiting my sister, and the hotel was just up the road. The room was spacious, with a chunky duvet that made it cosy. Breakfast was good quality with plenty of coffee, and the staff were polite and helpful. Looking forward to going again later in the year.

After coming here for about twenty years and usually getting decent food, I won’t be rushing back to Cubley. Our Sunday lunch was dry and clearly reheated, the mash was gluey and stuck to the plate, and the average beef came with just carrots and one parsnip, no greens. One person’s pizza came back burnt. There were ten adults and two children. With drinks, the bill was £315, which felt about average, but the meal was below average. All but three of the adults had poor meals. On the whole, very disappointing.

The rooms were comfortable, and the food and drinks were good. We also went to a function in the adjoining suite, which was fabulous. Staff were friendly and the service was great throughout.
