Holiday Inn Express Sheffield City Centre by IHG

I used to think of Holiday Inn as a dependable choice when travelling, but this visit changed that. A woman urgently needed the restroom and staff refused to let her use it. We would have bought something if asked, and I understand facilities can be for customers, but the response was dismissive and unkind when she was clearly in an emergency. It was a disappointing lack of compassion, and I hope they reflect on how this was handled. I won't be staying with Holiday Inn again.

We were really pleased with our choice in Sheffield. The car park was a big plus, and the staff were lovely, the woman at reception was friendly and the man at the bar explained how breakfast worked. Our room felt safe and was impressively clean, and it was very comfortable for a budget hotel. Housekeeping was suspended during our stay, which suited us, and extra items were available if we needed them. A very pleasant stay.

Breakfast had plenty of tasty self-serve choices, and the shower room was great, with a roomy shower and lots of fluffy towels. I was impressed by the facilities for my first stay at a Holiday Inn Express. The bed was huge and comfortable, with both soft and firm pillows to choose from. Tea and coffee were provided, and housekeeping could be contacted for forgotten toiletries. Best hotel I've stayed in, and I'd happily recommend it.

Getting straight into the city from the motorway was easy, even after our four-hour drive, and we found a parking space right away. It cost about £6 per night. The room was nice enough, with a decent view, though the TV menu froze now and then, perhaps just that set. The shower was very good, while the beds could've been better. The included breakfast was the highlight for me. It wasn't amazing food, but having it covered by the room price made it worthwhile, especially compared with paying extra at other hotels. There were vegetarian choices, including Quorn sausages, and the fresh yogurt was lovely. No hash browns, sadly, which would've earned five stars from me. The orange juice was a bit lacking, but fine given it was a free meal. Weekend breakfast ran from 7 to 11, and there was plenty to take away if you were in a hurry.
