This has become a family favourite, and we're already looking forward to going back. We come after walks in the peaks and went most recently for a romantic Valentine's dinner. Dogs are welcome, and the pub has that pretty English feel, with a roaring fire and usually enough room to enjoy yourselves without it getting too loud or packed. The food is generous, high quality English pub fare, with proper Yorkshire sized portions of gravy. I'm gluten free and there's always plenty of good choice, including a proper GF Yorkshire pudding, not a disappointing frozen one. The food is always very good.

The staff made us feel at home from the moment we arrived, and the welcoming atmosphere, kids' play area and bouncy castle, plus the nice views, made for a lovely visit. We had two beef braising steak stews in giant Yorkshire puddings with mash, a chicken madras with rice and naan, and a chicken Kiev with mash, gravy and green beans. We all enjoyed the food, especially the hearty, flavourful beef stews. One person in our group didn't enjoy the Kiev, but Kerry was understanding and offered a discount so they wouldn't leave unhappy. The team kept checking that we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. We'd return and recommend it.

On a dark, wet day, this pub felt like a lovely escape. The open fires and dog friendly atmosphere made it warm and welcoming, and our enormous Sunday lunch portions were just the homely food we expected. Service was very good. It was lovely seeing people of all ages enjoy the outdoors, then come in to eat, drink and have fun together. The children were enjoying themselves, and people weren't glued to their phones.

A really good lunch, with a warm welcome from the bar staff. The pie of the day was good quality lamb with plenty of gravy, and the bacon and cheese sandwich was excellent. I didn't give five stars because the gents' toilet door clearly hadn't been cleaned in a while. Hygiene around toilets matters, especially on surfaces customers touch.

The young guy who served us was great, and we were greeted warmly, but the food and the later service put us off returning. The cauliflower cheese was really hard, and the pigs in blankets were disgusting, greasy smelling and minging to taste. When the woman collected the plates, she asked if everything was okay. I said it was okay, and her attitude immediately changed, with a pointed 'just okay!' We explained what was wrong, but she didn't acknowledge it and took the plates away rudely. It was clear she didn't want us to stay for pudding, and she made us so uncomfortable that I just wanted to leave. First and last visit, which is a shame because it looks lovely outside.
