We had a delicious evening meal made with fresh local produce, and breakfast was amazing too. Room No12 was lovely, with the most comfortable bed ever. We’ll definitely be back.

We spent a night here in our motorhome. Parking was free, and although there are no facilities, that wasn’t a problem for us. There’s a really lovely walk over the moor to Slippery Stones, then you can head back to the pub for excellent food. The landlady was very accommodating and the staff were lovely. The pub is right beside the very busy Woodhead Pass, which won’t suit everyone, but it didn’t bother us. The car park is large enough to park well away from the road. A nice little pub, and one worth trying.

The Sunday roast is superb, and there’s a great choice of drinks. I’ve been to this little country pub twice now and really enjoyed it both times. The staff are very friendly, and we’ll definitely be back.

They serve good beer, and the mixed game burgers were excellent. The menu is a little broader than usual, with game and vegetarian choices. Add a log fire on a cold day and very welcoming staff, and what more could you want?

Fantastic location, but the rooms felt a bit tired. The mattresses seemed cheap, and you could feel and hear the springs. Food was OK, nothing special. It was the first time I’d seen a mixed grill served with a burger instead of steak.
