The Garrison Hotel

Really enjoyed this interesting place. It's not for anyone looking for perfection, but it was clean and comfortable, with some history and a brilliant breakfast. The chef got breakfast just right, and the waitress was warm, friendly and efficient. There were lots of choices, including an extra hot breakfast, and you could adjust how strong you wanted your cappuccino. Thanks from Bikers, Kim n Ju x

I've been back here many times, usually for two weeks at a stretch. It suits what I need: somewhere to sleep and a fantastic breakfast included in the price. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Fully recommend it.

The staff made us feel welcome, and the rooms were clean. Parking was easy enough too. We'd stay again. We had read the reviews and were a bit sceptical, but the place was better than some people suggest. The rooms were fine, although parts of the decor could use some attention. There were cigarette ends and trays outside the rooms that need sorting, and you can hear neighbours coming and going through the thin walls, but it wasn't too bad.

We left after just one night of a two-night booking at The Garrison in Sheffield. We've never done that before. Our room didn't feel clean, and there was visible mould inside the built-in shampoo dispensers in the bathroom. The central heating wasn't working, so we had to use a portable electric heater overnight to keep warm. The hotel felt dark, dated and neglected, more like a roadside motel. We could hear activity in neighbouring rooms through the walls. Outside the bedrooms, a mug and cigarette ends had been left in a glass tray, and the whole place felt tired and grim rather than welcoming. We can't understand the positive reviews online, since they didn't match our stay. Schitt’s Creek’s fictional motel might feel cheerier by comparison. Thankfully, we found another hotel in Sheffield city centre for the second night and had a much better stay. If cleanliness, warmth and basic comfort matter to you, we'd suggest staying elsewhere.
