The Howard Arms

We were a group of nine staying two nights at The Howard Arms. The pub is tucked away in a quiet village on a green, with a large garden and car park, and it’s in a great location. All our bedrooms were brilliant, and we enjoyed excellent dinners and breakfasts. The staff were so friendly and helpful. It was clearly popular with the locals, and we’d certainly return.

We had Sunday dinner at this beautiful old English pub, and our dog was welcome everywhere except the restaurant. Inside there was a huge open fire and big, comfy armchairs. The food was great: soup of the day to start, pork with all the trimmings, then sticky toffee pudding. You’ll need to book, as it gets mobbed.

The pub’s atmosphere and location were lovely, and the friendly staff helped make our hen party day. We had Saturday lunch here as a large group, and everything ran smoothly. All the food and drink orders were right and came quickly, and everyone enjoyed their meals. I especially loved the smash burger and chips. Thank you so much!

The food was exceptional for quality, portion size and value, and breakfast was tasty and nicely presented. We had to choose it the night before, then enjoyed a full English and Eggs Royale. On our busy Sunday afternoon arrival, Tim appeared and showed us to the Garden Room, which was perfect in every way, including its size. We loved the sitting room, comfortable bed and huge bathroom. Tim knows the pub, restaurant and local area inside out and is a real asset. Mac, our dinner waiter, was jolly, knew the food and wine well, and his happy personality was just what we needed after a long drive. We’d found this cozy pub in the Michelin guide and arrived with high hopes. Whether you’re after good food and drinks while travelling north to south or a romantic getaway, it’s highly recommended.
